Tacca chantrieri — Black Bat Flower

Description

Tacca chantrieri, commonly called Black Bat Flower, is a tropical plant known for its dark wing-like blooms and long trailing whisker bracts. Broad glossy leaves give the plant a lush background even when it is not flowering.

Light and Humidity

Grow in bright filtered light or open shade rather than harsh direct sun. Warm temperatures and moderate to high humidity suit this tropical species best. For another unusual flowering tropical, compare it with Stapelia gigantea.

Soil and Water

Use a loose, well-drained potting mix that still holds some moisture. Keep the root zone evenly moist during active growth, but do not allow the pot to stay waterlogged.
