Description
Pilea peperomioides ‘Sugar’ is a variegated money plant with round green leaves marked in cream. Each leaf can show a different pattern. The plant stays compact and works well on shelves, desks, and plant stands.
It also makes small pups near the base. These can be divided and grown as new plants.
Light
Give it bright, indirect light. Strong sun can burn pale leaf tissue. Low light may reduce the cream color. For the classic green form, see Chinese Money Plant.
Water and Soil
Use loose soil that drains well. Let the top part of the mix dry before you water again. Then water well and let extra water drain. For a different variegated form, see Pilea ‘White Splash’.
Growth and Care
Turn the pot from time to time for even growth. Feed lightly while new leaves are forming. Remove damaged leaves and separate pups if the pot gets crowded.
More Pilea
Keep the plant warm and away from cold drafts. Check the leaves for common pests. If you enjoy bold texture, Pilea ‘Moon Valley’ is another compact houseplant.
