Description
Philodendron brandtianum, or Silver Leaf Philodendron, has heart-shaped green leaves with silver marks. The vines can trail from a pot or climb a support.
Young plants fit well on shelves and plant stands. A climbing plant can make larger leaves as it grows. Give it warm air and room to spread.
Light
Give it bright, indirect light. Strong sun can burn the leaves. Low light may slow growth. For a velvet-leaf climber, see Philodendron ‘El Choco Red’.
Water and Soil
Use loose soil with good drainage. Water when the top of the mix starts to dry. Let extra water drain from the pot. Wet roots can lead to rot. For another silver trailing plant, see Scindapsus ‘Black Satin’.
Climb or Trail
Let the stems trail, or train them up a pole or trellis. Trim long stems to shape the plant. Stem pieces with a node can root and make new plants.
Simple Care
Feed lightly while new growth is active. Keep the plant away from cold drafts. Check leaves for common pests. For a larger climbing hybrid, see Philodendron ‘Splendid’.
