Perennials
The Best Perennial Plants and Seeds for Your Garden
Ready to build a garden that comes back every year? Perennials are the heart of a lasting landscape. They grow. They rest. They return. With our perennial plants and seeds, you get color, shape, and texture that keep improving season after season. In other words, you plant once and enjoy for years. That’s smart gardening.
Why Perennials Make Sense
Perennials are low effort and high reward. They live for many years. They spread. They fill gaps. They save you time and money. Instead of replanting each spring, you watch your garden wake up on its own. Many perennials are also drought tolerant once established. Others thrive in shade. You can match the right plant to the right place. We help you do that.

How to Choose the Right Perennials
Pick by light first. Then pick by soil. After more than that, think color and height.
Light levels:
- Full sun (6+ hours): Go bold with coneflower, lavender, salvia, yarrow.
- Part sun (3–6 hours): Try daylily, catmint, coreopsis, heuchera.
- Shade (under 3 hours): Use hosta, ferns, astilbe, hellebore.
Soil tips:
- Well-drained: Lavender, thyme, echinops love it.
- Moist but not wet: Bee balm, astilbe, turtlehead thrive here.
- Clay: Daylily, black-eyed Susan, Siberian iris handle heavy soils.
Color and bloom time:
- Aim for waves of bloom. Early spring, late spring, summer, and fall.
- Mix warm and cool tones. Contrast leaf shapes for depth.
- Add at least one fragrant plant by your path or patio.
Height matters:
- Back row (30–48″+): Joe Pye weed, tall phlox, ornamental grasses.
- Middle (18–30″): Echinacea, shasta daisy, bee balm.
- Front (6–18″): Heuchera, thyme, sedum.
Planting: Step-By-Step (Plants and Seeds)
For potted or bare-root plants
- Soak and prep. Water the pot well. If bare root, hydrate roots in clean water for 20–30 minutes.
- Dig wide, not deep. Make a hole twice the width of the root ball. Match the soil line to the top of the pot.
- Loosen roots. Gently tease circling roots so they spread.
- Set and backfill. Use your native soil. Firm gently. Do not bury the crown.
- Water in. Soak the area to settle soil and remove air pockets.
- Mulch lightly. Keep mulch away from the crown by 1–2 inches.
Care That Fits Real Life
Perennials do not ask for much. But a little care goes a long way.
- Water: Deep and less often beats shallow and often. Aim for 1 inch per week in the first season.
- Mulch: 2–3 inches helps keep roots cool and reduces weeds. Keep it off the crown.
- Feed: Most beds do well with compost in spring. If soil is poor, use a slow-release, balanced feed.
- Deadhead: Snip spent blooms to push more flowers. Leave some seed heads for birds and winter charm.
- Divide: Every 3–5 years, split crowded clumps in spring or fall. You get free plants and stronger bloom.
- Winter prep: In cold zones, leave stems for wildlife and cut back in late winter. In warm zones, trim and tidy as needed.
Pollinator Promise and Eco Wins
When we plant perennials, we build a small habitat. Nectar and pollen pull in bees and butterflies. Seed heads and stems feed birds and shelter helpful insects. Deep roots hold soil, store carbon, and sip less water. In other words, your garden does good while it looks good. Choose a few natives in each bed for even more impact. Mix in host plants for caterpillars, like milkweed for monarchs. Together, we create a living yard.
Design Ideas You Can Steal Today
Sunset Border: Layer yarrow in front, coneflower in the middle, and ornamental grass in back. Warm tones glow at dusk.
Calm Shade Walk: Combine hosta, fern, and hellebore under trees. Add heuchera at the edge for color all year.
Bee Buffet: Plant catmint, bee balm, salvia, and coreopsis together. You’ll see visitors all day.
Small-Space Magic: Use heuchera and dwarf grasses in pots. Add creeping thyme as a living mulch.
Four-Season Mix: Spring hellebore. Summer coneflower. Fall aster and sedum. Winter grass plumes and seed heads.
What Makes Our Perennials Different

- Fresh seed. Packed with care and dated so you know it is current.
- Root strength. Plants are grown for sturdy roots, not quick blooms.
Simple FAQ
Will seeds bloom the first year?
Some may. Many perennials bloom in year two. That’s normal. The wait is worth it.
How many plants do I need?
For a 10-foot border, 10–14 plants is common. Use more small plants up front and fewer tall plants in back.
Can I grow perennials in pots?
Yes. Pick varieties labeled “compact” or “dwarf.” Use a quality potting mix and a container with drainage.
Do I need fertilizer?
Healthy soil is best. Add compost each spring. If growth is slow, use a gentle, slow-release feed.
What about deer and rabbits?
We tag many plants as less tasty. Think lavender, catmint, yarrow, and some ferns. No plant is 100% safe, but these help.
Do you ship live plants safely?
Yes. We pack roots snug and protect foliage. Water and plant soon after arrival.
The Promise We Stand Behind
We ship strong plants and fresh seed. If something looks off on day one, tell us. We will make it right. That is our simple promise. You can buy with confidence and plant with joy.
Let’s Build a Garden That Lasts
Perennial plants and seeds give you more beauty for less work. They return. They spread. They support life. With the right mix for your light and soil, your garden will carry color from spring to frost. And year two? Even better than year one. That is the magic of perennials.
Roots That Keep Giving
Plant today. Plan for next season. Watch the show grow richer, deeper, and more alive—one returning bloom at a time.
